Associate Professor of Plant Sciences
The Department of Plant Sciences and New College are seeking to recruit to an Associate Professorship of Plant Sciences, to be held in the Department of Plant Sciences, together with a Tutorial Fellowship at New College. The successful candidate will start on 1 October 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter, noting that in the current pandemic it may take longer than usual to make arrangements to take up the position.
Preference will be given to applicants with a strong background in plant biology and a specific interest in metabolism. The successful candidate will be required to initiate and maintain a research programme that will contribute to the Department’s standing as a leading centre for plant biology; to teach, supervise and examine undergraduate and postgraduate research students; and to contribute to and participate in the administration of the Department. Establishing a research programme will be given priority within the Department and mentoring appropriate to the experience of the appointee will be provided to ensure success. In the College the successful candidate will have joint responsibility for the admission, teaching, and pastoral care of students reading for the degree in Biology. They will also play a role in the running of the College as a Charity Trustee and as a member of its Governing Body.
In broad terms, the successful candidate will demonstrate outstanding scientific creativity, initiative and determination, and the ability to initiate and sustain a research programme in metabolic plant biology on the basis of their own intellectual input. The successful candidate will also demonstrate a willingness and aptitude to participate in the full range of teaching and other duties expected in the Department and the College.
