Research Description

Lipid transfer proteins (LTPs) are a conserved group of plant proteins that are implicated in plant disease resistance and tolerance to abiotic stress (Yeats & Rose, 2008). LTPs are induced in response to pathogen attack and display anti-microbial activity towards both fungi and bacteria. The aim of our project is to investigate the function of apoplastic LTPs in plant immune system against bacterial infection, using the interaction of the plant pathogenic bacterium Pseudomonas syringae with the model plant Nicotiana benthamiana as a model system and with common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) as a crop plant
