Philip Poole leads a consortium centred in Oxford Plant Sciences and Somerville College that has received £1.6 million from the BBSRC Newton-Bhabba fund to form a Joint Virtual Centre, the India-UK Nitrogen Fixation Centre. The centre also involves collaborators at JIC and James Hutton in the UK and an Indian consortium with matched funding from the Indian DBT led by DLN Rao. The centre will address the use of legumes and nitrogen fixation in dry land agriculture and aims to improve the yields of the key dry land crop pigeon pea. Details are available here.
